A low self esteem is one of the main reasons for depression. Working to boost your self confidence can increase your chances for success and happiness on both an individual and high end. Although people understand that they have to boost their sense of self worth, it is not always easy to complete. However, there are many ways that you can improve your self confidence. Here are seven methods to improve your self confidence.

Play For your Strengths

First it is important to determine who you are. What nouns do you need to explain yourself (wife, mother, friend, teacher, etc.)? Also create a list of the strengths, capabilities, and skills. Many times our sense of self worth are wrapped up in our negative perceptions of ourselves, especially in relation to places that we feel a lack such as our physical appearance, education, finances, job, etc. However it is important to remember that our weight, the skin we have, our career, etc. are not who we're. Who we're is inside ourselves and too often we hide the beauty of our generous souls, creative natures, and joyful zest behind walls we have built to protect ourselves. This could cut us removed from others but much more dangerous it can cut us off from ourselves.

Identify what is unique and special with regards to you and regularly reaffirm that you are in fact skilled and knowledgeable in those areas. Find at least one section of your life that is a source of pride and joy in your lifetime. Make sure to have permission to understand more about that area and experience it whenever possible.

Lay Down Your Burdens

So frequently we dwell on our weaknesses and worries until they loom bigger than life and begin to dominate our thoughts and emotions. Spend a few minutes every day recording your worries and negative thoughts then close it and push the negativity to the back of the mind. Concerns that loom so large inside your imagination lose their ability in writing. Amazingly, after writing them down the anxieties begin to fade.

Believe in yourself

All too often we all experience failure because we let others choose our goals for us whether it is society, our parents, partners, friends, or teachers. Don't set goals in line with the expectations of others but instead on what for you to do, that which you enjoy doing, and what you want doing. Following another person's dreams rather than our very own is setting ourselves up to fail which in turn results in lower self esteem. Of course then we are less likely to pursue our own goals which then creates a cycle of failure and low self confidence.

Be a Positive Person

Think and speak positively. If you hear a compliment or positive statement about someone you realize pass that compliment on to them. An Arabian proverb puts it neatly: Blessed is he who speaks a kindness; thrice blessed he who repeats it. Concentrate on speaking positively of others in addition to yourself. The more you concentrate your energy on positive reinforcement on your own and for others the easier it is to be a positive person with a strong self confidence.

This means becoming a more friendly person to people those who are a normal part of your life in addition to strangers you simply pass at the shop or on the street. Smile, nod, discuss the elements or life, and concentrate on giving others grounds to smile too. Have yet others positive rewards for being and doing well.

Take Risks

Learn new things. Begin a new hobby, become familiar with a new skill, take a class, read challenging books, or participate in a new physical challenge or activity. Don’t hesitate of mistakes or failure. Simply stepping outside your comfortable rut is a success and each new skill and each piece of new knowledge gained is a success. Perhaps the final project isn't as successful while you hoped try not to disregard the other gains you've made from the experience. Risk-taking builds confidence and provides the courage to see still more new things. Each new experience can help you learn and grow like a person in addition to provide you with the opportunity for better results. Maybe that quilt didn't come out as beautiful as you hoped but you made new friends within the class or found a terrific way to relieve stress. And maybe you learned enough in the experience so that your next quilt will be beautiful. Remember trying and failing still puts you in front of the person who didn't try at all.

Discount the Negative

All too often our negative perceptions of ourselves, whether it is our physical appearance, our financial status, or professional life, is dependent upon outside influences. It is important to keep in mind that rarely do these negative projections come from an impartial source therefore we should provide them with little credence. For instance, when the messenger is popular culture or media, remember clients meet to help you feel bad with regards to you so you will buy what they are selling. Similarly, many people (even people who adore you) often build themselves up in the expense of others. It can help you improve your self confidence simply by keeping better company. Positive feeds positive and negative breeds negative. If you choose to be around attitudes you in turn will become more positive. Don’t accept messages that damage your personal self-esteem. It is much easier to improve or improve your behavior whenever you believe you're lovable and capable.

Take Small Steps

A little success may bring a large sense of competence. Small steps lead to more steps. Pat oneself around the back each time you are making a little success. Everything counts. Take one step at any given time in a positive direction, this is the practice of self-esteem.

Using these seven strategies will help you boost your self esteem and assist you to lead a happier and more successful life.
